”I'd rather be at Newington" uses the Olympic village in Sydney (2000) as an example of the contradictions between the expectations of the Olympian utopia and the urban reality of the villages after the games. The work shows the village from different points of view: The video shows views of the villages, which has been renamed to ”Newington" in the meantime. The village has some resemblance to a gated community. Extracts taken from an interview we had with an inhabitant of the village appear as subtitles. You only hear original sounds from the village.
