Black Paint
Height: app. 400 cm
The work “Dirty House” was made for an exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt/Main. The Museum was built by the US-american architect Richard Meier in 1985, who is well-known for his white buildings. For the work four columns of the exhibition space were painted black up to 4 meters high. The title of the piece is taken from a building by the architect David Adjaye, who was born in Ghana. The facade of his “Dirty House”, which he built in London in 2004 for an artist couple, is completely black.
According to a study by the University of Cincinnati, in 2006 there are only 1571 architects of african american origin among the 91.000 licensed architects in the United States.
