"Christiane" is modelled after a sequence in the film "Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" by Ulrich Edel (Germany, 1981). Christiane F. describes her environment and expresses her desire for change. Our video shows the face of a woman in close-up in front of the grating of a shopwindow. She is talking to a person off-screen but there is no sound. Her words appear as subtitles.
Subtitles:
"Nothing but piss and shit everywhere. You just have to look carefully. No matter how new and posh everything looks from afar. With green lawns and shopping malls. The places that stink most are inside the buildings, in the stairwells. And I have lived here since I was six. I'm sick and tired of it. There are billboards all around town. 'Sound – Europe's most modern discothèque.' That's where I want to go."
